Dr. A. K. Mukherjee completed the Master of Surgery (Orthopaedics) from AIIMS, New Delhi and joined Oxford University as Berry Scholar and completed doctorate in Orthopaedics Surgery. He worked as the DGHS, Govt. of India, Chief, MCI, Secretary General Indian Red Cross Society and Advisor in WHO, SEARO. He is the Fellow of British Orthopaedic Association, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), Johnson and Johnson Fellow and O.A.S. Fellow. He has published many articles in national and international books/ journals and also have written books on disabilities. He was a drafting committee member of United Nations in Convention for Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He was a reviewer of ‘World Report on Disability’ and contributed chapters in WHO publications. He holds the position of Vice President of Asia Pacific Region of R.I. He is Member of Working Group (Disability) of UN ESCAP. He has been involved with many voluntary agencies working in the area of disability and healthcare. He is the Chairman ARA Healthcare Private Limited and also member of National Committee of CII & FICCI (Private Companies) in India. He is permanent member of BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is the President of Spinal Cord Society (India). At present he is the Member Board of Governors and Director General of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi.
